From here:
A Calgary man says he will quit his job if he’s assigned to drive a bus wrapped in a rainbow flag.
The annual Calgary Pride Festival kicks off Friday and, as a show of support, a Calgary Transit bus has been wrapped in the symbol of inclusiveness.
The rainbow flag bus will operate through Sept. 7, the day of the parade.
Jesse Rau, who has worked for Calgary Transit as a driver for about a year, says he’s a Christian and can’t support homosexuality.
Rau hopes Calgary Transit and the Amalgamated Transit Union will support drivers who don’t want to drive the rainbow bus.
Doug Morgan, director of Calgary Transit, says drivers can only refuse to work based on safety issues.
Here is the bus:
Although I sympathise with the bus driver’s disinclination to drive the bus, I have an uneasy feeling that he has picked the wrong battle. As Christians in the world, we are constantly surrounded with ideas that are out of step with our beliefs and sometimes they are plastered on the side of a bus. The driver has not been asked to drive a bus in the Pride Parade.
Would Jesse Rau also refuse to drive a bus with these ads?
I wonder what would happen to a Muslim bus driver who refused to drive a bus with this on it:
Perhaps, there should be no ads on any buses. In our world, there is so much false advertising. Advertising is a form of propaganda. Personally, I no longer pay much attention to ads, especially the political propaganda in our current long election campaign. Long campaign wastes our money. If we can eliminate all elements of self-interest in advertising, perhaps I can change my mind about ads. In reality, no advertiser is going to parade the drawbacks of his or her product along with its benefits. If we allow a rainbow bus to promote the acceptance of homosexuality, perhaps, another bus can have an ad to support the opposition to such a human behaviour.
I agree with your point and formulated the same conclusion before I read yours. The bus driver is being a bit reactionary–some might suggest he’s being opportunistic in his willingness to grandstand his opposition and offer himself for employment- martyrdom in the unlikely event he’s scheduled to drive that bus.
Off topic comment or question: The last advertisement depicts A. Hitler meeting with Amin al-Husseini. I confess I’m unfamiliar with this past “leader of the Muslim world” but if he existed I doubt he could legitimately claim to be “leader” and I also doubt they met–as the advert implies. I thought Hitler didn’t set foot outside Germany, Austria or France while Chancellor or Furhur and I’m not aware of state visits to Germany beyond that of Chamberlain, Mussolini and Japanese diplomates. I thought I was ok with my history but I can see that I’m not. After I post, I’ll be heading over to Google to look into this.
Thanks for your writing. It’s always thought provoking and as far as I can tell, grammatically correct. I appreciate that and wish I could always do the same.
1942 – Hajj Amin al-Husseini ,pro-Axis Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, flees to Germany, after a most bloody failed attempt by his Arab nationalists to murder Jews and undermine British control of Palestine; there he aligns publicly and privately with Hitler and his regime, and undertakes to create a Muslim legion to fight alongside the Nazi troops, with Hitler’s own assurance that once Germany triumphed in the ME, the Jews of Palestine also would be liquidated as in Europe. In May,1943, he recommends to the Bulgarian Foreign Minister that Jewish children be sent to Poland instead of Palestine. In Bosnia, he levied 20.00 thousand Muslims to fight with the Waffen-SS, setting lose his savage ‘Handjar’ (Sword) units. He completely escaped post-WWII justice.
His leadership mantle pertaining to ‘Palestine’ and Jewry fell on his nephew, Yasser Arafat. The same anti-Semitic spirit haunts the halls of Tehran……where they deny that the Holocaust happened; most
recently in Khameini’s post-July 14, 2015, nuclear deal book entitled,
“Palestine”.
WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE?
It is always a difficult thing as a born again Christian to chose your battles in this world we live in. The Word of God teaches us: “Servants, be obedient to those who are your masters accordinging to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ.” (Eph 6:5). And Jesus told us, “…, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s”. (Mark 12:17) So as Christians we are to give our masters, employers, governments what they ask for. But for the saints Christs, and the martyrs for Christ, there comes a time when Christians must take a stand, and that time comes when These master’s edicts and commands affect your relationship with Christ. If you feel driving a bus with such a statement upon affects your relationship with God, then you must not do it. I personally feel it would interfere with my relationship to God, and my rights as an employee to have others politics and viewpoints forced upon me.
The parades have become the stampede – with Biblical Christians under the bus!
I can only commend the driver for his position. At least he shows more leadership than many within the so-called Christian community such as so-called bishops within the ACoC and other apostate churches — notice the small “c”. The time has long since past for Christians to “Stand up!! Stand up!! for Jesus” There is an old hymn, “Who is on the Lord’s side?? Who will serve the King?? Who will be His helpers other lives to bring?” As Christians we need to answer, “We are on the Lord’s side, Saviour, we are thine!”.
Just practice hospitality and obey your boss!
A good employee looks for things to do is what my mom’s boss said to me
There is a god!!!!!!!! and he loves you and wants to be you friend.
