The West’s new weapon against Al-Qaeda: Rowan Williams

From here:

Wrong understanding of religion and God was often the cause of terrorism and religious fanaticism, archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams observed in Thiruvananthapuram today.

Stating that he did not think that universal military action against terrorism would solve the problem, he said trying to understand why some people were driven to “dreadful and evil actions” would help addressing the problem of terrorism.

This certainly has potential: as Rowan tries to “understand” terrorists he will undoubtedly pull out his big guns and employ dialogue. They won’t stand a chance; bored to death before they can reach for the nearest suicide belt. If Rowan is feeling particularly vicious he will organise them into indaba groups to reduce them to drooling idiots first.

Terrorists in Gaza have anti-aircraft missiles

From here:

Speaking at a Likud meeting Monday afternoon, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu expressed concern that aircraft flying near the Gaza Strip may be exposed to anti-aircraft systems.

“Today we are experiencing difficulty flying near the Gaza Strip since they have in their possession anti-aircraft missiles,” explained Netanyahu. “Imagine that there are no security arrangements, and there will be missiles that can take down an aircraft that is en route to Ben Gurion airport.”

Surely all of the $400 million from the US in Gaza aid went to buy food. Perhaps the missile launchers are firing potatoes.

Terrorists fired phosphorus shells into Israel

From the Jerusalem Post:

At least 2 of the 9 mortar shells fired during the day contained phosphorus, police confirm; regional council head intends to inform UN of Geneva Convention violation.

Two phosphorous mortars were fired at southern Israel from Gaza on Wednesday, Police Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told The Jerusalem Post.

“A police bomb disposal team examined a number of mortars that were fired today. We can confirm that two out of the nine mortars contained phosphorous,” Rosenfeld added.

Israel Police said it was not the first time that phosphorous shells had been fired at Israel from Gaza.

Imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth we would have heard from the Guardian and other repositories of leftist agitprop – not to mention bombastic pieties from the WCC, NCC, Fred Hiltz and Shirley McClaine – had it been the other way around.

As of the time of writing this post, though, the media are ignoring it.

What made Khuram Sher turn to terrorism?

What was it that made terrorism the last option for this young man?

Rejection?

Or was it his failure to grow a convincing beard? A genetic predisposition to sartorial gaucheness, perhaps? We will never know for sure, but having just watched this, I feel like blowing something up, too.

Covering up in the UK: the Camera Burka

From the BBC:

Bags are to be put over scores of surveillance cameras in parts of Birmingham with large Muslim populations, after local objections.

Safer Birmingham Partnerships (SBP) said 216 cameras were put up, including hidden ones, mainly in the Washwood Heath and Sparkbrook districts.

The cameras were financed through a counter-terrorism fund, but the SBP said they would tackle all crime.

This is the new approach to combating terrorism. Psychological warfare: confuse potential terrorists by ignoring them, confident that they will become so befuddled that they will all spontaneously give themselves up.

UK: deporting terrorists not allowed

Melanie Philips writes:

The BBC reports:

The alleged leader of an al-Qaeda plot to bomb targets in north-west England has won his appeal against deportation. A special immigration court said Abid Naseer was an al-Qaeda operative – but could not be deported because he faced torture or death back home in Pakistan.

… ‘We are satisfied that Naseer was an al-Qaeda operative who posed and still poses a serious threat to the national security of the United Kingdom,’ the judgement said. It added: ‘Subject to the issue of safety on return, it is conducive to the public good that he should be deported.’

Question: if it is not ok to send al Qaeda operatives to far-flung places where they may be judicially killed, why is it ok for British forces to be hunting them down in far-flung places in order that they may be extra-judicially killed?

We all know the explanation for this. The immediate reason is the particularly obtuse interpretation of human rights law by the English judiciary, which has extended the definition of torture to include deporting anyone to any country whose standards of human rights are lower than in Britain. Which is just about everywhere on the planet.

Not so! Canada has a pretty good human rights record too. And we take anyone; we send terrorists to live in Brantford or Montreal where they are sponsored by the Anglican Church of Canada.

So ship your al-Qaeda operatives to us where they can join their friends: we’d love to have them.

200 terror suspects in Canada

From here:

OTTAWA – Canada’s spy agency is keeping tabs on more than 200 people within the country it says are suspected terrorists.

Richard Fadden, the director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, told the parliamentary public safety committee Tuesday that his clandestine organization’s “No. 1 priority” is protecting Canadians from the “threat of al-Qaida, its affiliates and its adherents.”

“In that regard, I can say that as of this month, CSIS is investigating over 200 individuals in this country whose activities meet the definition of terrorism as set out in the (Anti-Terrorism) act,” Fadden said, adding they are also monitoring people abroad.

“It is also worth mentioning that the service maintains an active interest in the threat-related activities of a number of non-citizens who have ties to Canada, whether through former residence here or family links.”

CSIS has confirmed that not all of the suspects are refugees sponsored by the Anglican Church of Canada.

Replica Mosques used for target practice

Add an Image

From here:

Simply incredible story reaches Times Online from Bradford, where the Army has apologised to Muslim groups after building green-domed mosque-style buildings  at a firing range where soldiers are trained in target practice.

Saleem Khan, chief executive of Bradford Council for Mosques said the structures at Bellerby in Catterick should be removed straight away. ‘They do owe apologies to the Muslim community and it is the mind set which needs changing,’ he said.

Let’s change our mindset. Recite after me 100 times:

Mosques are never used as a cover for Islamist terrorists. Ever.

The ideology of death has a problem with…. Death

Bin Laden complains over the possibility that Khalid Sheik Mohammed might be executed:

CAIRO-Osama bin Laden threatened in a new message released Thursday to kill any Americans Al Qaeda captures if the U.S. executes the self-professed mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks or other Al Qaeda suspects.

In the 74-second audiotape aired on Al-Jazeera television, the Al Qaeda leader explicitly mentions Khalid Sheik Mohammed, who was captured in Pakistan in 2003. He is the most senior Al Qaeda operative in U.S. custody and is currently detained at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

In 2008, the U.S. charged Mohammed with murder and war crimes in connection with the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S. Pentagon officials have said they will seek the death penalty for him. Four of his fellow plotters are also in custody.

“The White House has expressed its desire to execute them. The day America makes that decision will be the day it has issued a death sentence for any one of you that is taken captive,” Bin Laden said, addressing Americans.

Binny baby, that’s what it’s all about: death and destruction; after all, if the US executes Khalid, he’ll soon be ravishing – sequentially, I presume – 72 virgins. And it’ll be less excruciating than going out with exploding bombs in his buttocks. So stop moaning.
