Justin Welby wants to wipe out AIDS by 2030

Read and watch here.

There is nothing particularly surprising about this since the Anglican church seems to have an obsessive interest in making broad declarations about things over which it has no control or influence. When Anglican leaders are not parading their impotence by Making Poverty History or demanding justice on behalf of the climate, they are, with no medical knowledge whatsoever and a diminished confidence in the efficacy of prayer to heal, trumpeting that AIDS is to be banished by 2030. But why AIDS?

As you can see from the following chart, heart disease kills five time the number of people as AIDS. Even diarrhoea kills as many people as AIDS. Why isn’t the Archbishop of Canterbury telling us what a great privilege it is to be invited to give a message on the fight against diarrhoea?

The reason, I suspect, is that, in a similar vein to Romans 1:18-32, as the church’s interest in eternity has waned, so its interest in sex – homosexual sex in particular – has increased, attracting a disproportionate number of homosexual clergy.

Although AIDS can be spread through heterosexual contact, the preferred way to contract it is still through homosexual activity. As this article points out, homosexual men are more severely affected by HIV than any other group in the United States.”

So for Anglican leaders, combating AIDS is a species of group self-interest.

Diocese of Niagara has AIDS vigil

There will be an AIDS vigil at Christ Church Cathedral tomorrow. The reason appears to be not so much to encourage the prevention of AIDS but to “honour those living with HIV and those we have lost to AIDS – Honour. Celebrate. Be with us.” All that remains is the instituting of the Order of Niagara, HIV edition.

Actually helping to prevent AIDS rather than treating it once it has taken hold seems to me to be a better strategy. Regrettably, since AIDS is spreading predominantly through men having sex with one another and the concept of restraint is one that will be entirely foreign to those participating, this will probably be the only taboo topic at the vigil.

In 2010, MSM [men having sex with men] accounted for 63% of estimated new HIV infections in the United States and 78% of infections among all newly infected men. From 2008 to 2010, new HIV infections increased 22% among young (aged 13-24) MSM and 12% among MSM overall.

Ottawa is handing out free condoms

Ottawa’s Public Health department is handing out free condoms, ostensibly to prevent sexually transmitted diseases:

Not using a condom is the top risk factor among individuals diagnosed with an STI: In 2010, nearly 75% of people diagnosed reported not using one. Condoms, when used correctly and consistently, are an effective method to prevent STIs and unplanned pregnancies.

There is a Condom Locator, an Order Form, Instructions for halfwits and a Resources  page which, strangely enough, concentrates on gay sex.

I was scratching my head as to why Ottawa rather than, say, Toronto or Montreal, has decided to spend taxpayer dollars on condoms. Then it occurred to me that the program will be in full swing in time for the Anglican Church of Canada Synod scheduled from July 3 to 7 in Ottawa.

The Diocese of Niagara has an altar dedicated to HIV/AIDS

Apparently there are only two such altars in Canada, one in Montreal “in the heart of the gay village” and the other in Hamilton. While I don’t think Hamilton’s residents regard their home as a “gay village”, Christ’s Church Cathedral is undoubtedly a gay cathedral in the heart of a gay diocese – and proud to be so. An interesting inference in this article is the tacit acknowledgement that HIV/AIDS is predominantly a gay disease, in spite of decades of liberal propaganda to convince us that it isn’t.

When will the lady priests get their own altar dedicated to vaginas?

From here (page 2):

It is noteworthy that this Cathedral continues to bear witness to the hundreds of lives lost from AIDS in this community. Its special altar dedicated to HIV/AIDS is, to my knowledge, one of only two that exist in Canada. The other, called the Chapel of Hope, is at the Catholic Church of St. Pierre L’Apotre Montreal in the heart of the gay village.

Within North America, there are two more Chapels in San Francisco and New York, and both are housed within Anglican churches. Think of it, New York, San Francisco, Montreal and Hamilton.
