Millennium Development goals may include abortion rights

The Anglican Church of Canada has supported the UN’s Millennium Development Goals for some time; the cynical among us suspect that in the ACoC the MDGs have replaced the much more personally demanding Gospel of Jesus.

Soon the MDGs may include “universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights”; that includes “access” to abortions. If it continues to support the MDGs, the Anglican Church of Canada could find itself forced to make its position on abortion – one of the few social justice issues about which it is obstinately silent – public: the ACoC will finally have to come out about abortion.

Concern is growing that access to abortion may be included in the 15-year UN development programme that will replace the Millennium Development Goals from the end of next year.

Cafod has said it will be unable to giving 100 per cent backing to the new goals, currently in draft form, which already contain a commitment to grant universal access to sexual and reproductive health.

Satanists support abortion and gay marriage

Whenever the American people try to curtail abortion or maintain marriage laws, the followers of Satan will be there to fight back, promises the national spokesman for the Satanic Temple.

“Lucien Greaves” told Detroit’s Metro Times that he would like to help women avoid complying with pro-life laws by saying abortion restrictions violate their Satanic religious beliefs. He added that gay “marriage” is a Satanic “sacrament.”

That means that on two of the most important social issues of our day, the Anglican Church of Canada and The Episcopal Church have the same perspective as Satanists.

The question is: will Anglicans or Satanists be more upset over this?

On the other hand, the ACoC is already in full communion with the ELCIC; perhaps another opportunity is presenting itself.

The Green Abortion

New Zealand’s Green Party wants to legalise abortion to “protect the right to end a pregnancy.”

Green fundamentalism, whether it comes from a political party or the church is similar in its diminishing of the uniqueness and importance of human life: the earth wasn’t made for Man, Man was made for the earth. So it’s not surprising, I suppose, that Greenies are obsessively protective of members of any endangered species as long as they are not humans still in the womb.

The Green Party has ratified a formal policy on abortion, making it the only party in Parliament to have one.

It would legislate to decriminalise abortion and protect the right to end a pregnancy.

Having an abortion in New Zealand is still a crime under the Crimes Act, unless a pregnant woman faces a danger to her life, physical or mental health.

Canadian oil not good enough for the USA so Canada exports foetuses instead

The US has postponed the decision whether it is ethically permissible to transport Canadian oil via the Keystone pipeline to supply energy to Texas.

Meanwhile, Oregon, also unwilling to burn detestable, polluting fracked Canadian oil, is importing aborted Canadian babies to burn instead. The dead babies, along with other medical “waste”, are placed in “sealed boxes and [are] carried to the furnace on a conveyor belt”. Remind you of anything?

The British Columbia Health Ministry has admitted that the remains of babies destroyed by abortion in B.C. facilities are ending up in a waste-to-power facility in the United States, providing electricity for residents of Oregon.

The province’s Health Ministry said in an email to the B.C. Catholic that “biomedical waste” shipped to the U.S. to be incinerated includes “human tissue, such as surgically removed cancerous tissue, amputated limbs, and fetal tissue.”

It’s nine months until we celebrate the birth of Jesus and today is the Feast of the Annunciation.

I believe that the moment of conception is the moment a human being, made in God’s image, a person with an immortal soul, is created by God. For a Christian no other view stands up to scrutiny; no other view is logical.

Today, then, we celebrate the moment when God himself became fully Man while remaining fully God. Jesus emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. He emptied himself to the extent that he became a microscopic clump of cells embedded in the womb of one of his creatures.

EmbryoJesus came into the world at the moment of his conception.

Aborted babies used to heat hospitals

A predictable consequence of treating unborn babies as little more than disposable waste tissue: Soylent Green energy.

The bodies of thousands of aborted and miscarried babies were incinerated as clinical waste, with some even used to heat hospitals, an investigation has found.

Ten NHS trusts have admitted burning foetal remains alongside other rubbish while two others used the bodies in ‘waste-to-energy’ plants which generate power for heat.

Last night the Department of Health issued an instant ban on the practice which health minister Dr Dan Poulter branded ‘totally unacceptable.’

At least 15,500 foetal remains were incinerated by 27 NHS trusts over the last two years alone, Channel 4’s Dispatches discovered.

Another reason for belonging to ACNA

Unlike the ACoC and TEC who ceaselessly prattle about social justice while studiously ignoring the systematic killing of millions of unborn children every year, ACNA takes a stand against abortion.

The best that TEC can do comes from Rev Katherine Ragsdale who has declared that abortions are a blessing and abortionists, heroes; the ACoC is too timid to say anything.

An invitation to the March for Life from Archbishop Duncan

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

In Deuteronomy 30:19 Moses says, “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”

This exhortation reminds us of the profound importance God places on life, especially our children, born and unborn. Furthermore, the Canons of the Anglican Church in North America include this declaration of our commitment to life: God, and not man, is the creator of human life. The unjustified taking of life is sinful. Therefore, all members and Clergy are called to protect and respect the sanctity of every human life from conception to natural death (Canon II.8.3).

Abortion enthusiasts chant “Hail Satan”

It doesn’t get any more polarizing than God and the Devil.

As tensions over the abortion debate intensified at the Texas state legislature Tuesday, a religious-themed face-off took place in the form of a handful of hell-raising pro-choicers shouting “hail Satan” as pro-lifers swayed and sang “Amazing Grace.”

For the Episcopal view, here is Rev. Katherine Ragsdale, Dean of the Episcopal Divinity School, a seminary of the Episcopal Church. She is a lesbian and in 2011 married another woman. In 2009 she declared that abortion is a blessing and abortionists are saints.

It might be less disingenuous if she just chanted “hail Satan”:

Babies begin to learn language in the womb

New research has demonstrated that babies begin to learn language while still in the womb. That makes what a BBC article calls a “foetus” – although later there is a slipup and reference is made to “babies” – a person, a defenceless person,  a defenceless person whose life should be protected by the law:

Now researchers in the US and Sweden have found evidence that we start learning language before we’re even born.

The study discovered that in the last 10 weeks of pregnancy, foetuses are listening to their mothers communicate. And when they are born, they can show what they’ve heard.

This does little to make Canada’s lack of protection for the unborn any less shameful or Stephen Harper’s refusal to even discuss it any less deplorable:

Conservative backbenchers are pushing to reopen the abortion debate, despite public assurances by Prime Minister Stephen Harper that the issue is settled.

More than 20 Conservative MPs and senators appeared at an anti-abortion rally on Parliament Hill on Thursday. Among them was Mark Warawa, the MP whose push for a vote on sex-selective abortion – and the right to simply raise the issue in the House of Commons – led other backbenchers to complain publicly they were being silenced by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The abortion issue leaves Mr. Harper with a dilemma. Asked for comment, his office declined to address the MPs’ statements but said the issue won’t be reopened.
