If Christianity leaves you wanting more, if the Son of God dying a nasty death on a cross to pay for your sins isn’t enough, then this is for you. The Diocese of B.C. is offering a retreat featuring early Christian and Sufi Wisdom.
For those who have no idea what Sufi Wisdom is, here is a snippet:
“Do not think that your magic ring will work if you are not yourself Solomon.”
J. R. R. Tolkien must have been on one of these retreats.
well sufi is from Islam
how popular will this be?
will there be protests?
although it’s good to see what makes islam tick likewise also is good as to see what makes Christianity tick too
Judaism is the 1st Abrahamic Faith making Christianity the 2nd & Islam the 3rd
If this is to escape from Christianity into something else how good will this sufi be?
“Judaism is the 1st Abrahamic Faith making Christianity the 2nd & Islam the 3rd”
That’s true, but there is a fundamental difference in the relationship of Christianity to Judaism and Christianity to Islam.
Generally speaking, Christianity does not differ on the Old Testament (the Jewish Bible); a discussion by a rabbi on, say, the Psalms, is quite likely to be entirely valid for Christian ears. That’s because the Christian Bible is anchored on, and encompasses, the Jewish one. It’s the New Testament where we enter difficult theological territory with Judaism.
However, the Quran is not a further accretion of the Holy Bible (i.e., Old Testament + New Testament + Quran) as some might assume. It’s a complete rewriting of scripture and contains theology that is at odds entirely with both the Old Testament and the New.
In any event, I am of the opinion that comparative religion is an academic subject for schools, not a religious subject for churches.
Muslims do NOT worship the same God as Christians. In fact, the Q’ran clearly states that if you do not believe in Mohammed you should either be killed or pay a lifelong ransom to stay alive. Tragically the ACoC no longer worships our Lord & Saviour so this exercise should not surprise anyone.
If Sufis are also Muslim (and most are), I cannot trust their wisdom.
