St. John’s Shaughnessy is only attracting 40 people to its main Sunday service

The church building will hold over 800 people and before the Diocese of New Westminster acquired ownership of it, over 800 people attended the church.

Now, under the liberal regime of Bishop Michael Ingham, around 40 people are attending. Rev. Michael Fuller announced the number in his November 4th sermon:

  1. Listened to the sermon – total flashback to the ‘inspirational’ approach to sermons from when I was a child. Easy listening. No heresy in this example. Not a single “aha” moment I’m afraid.

    Ingham’s goal is to draw people away from small West-side parishes to SJS, then shut down the small churches and sell the buildings. Maybe Easy Listening is just what he wants.

  3. I’ve attended St John’s Shaughnessy since 1982 and now attend St John’s Vancouver at the new location. I think that the church was a good renewal model. This is a very stressfull situation for us to leave the building. I feel it is better to focus as to where the Lord would like me to hear the Gospel preached. The Diocese of New Westminister is not doing all that well. The donations of $250,000. from back east & $200,000. from Vancouver Island are just peanuts. The selling of the two St John’s Shaughnessy Manses for a total of 3 million are also just peanuts too. Donations and selling buildings for peanuts. The Diocese has experienced a good amount of ruin. Well, time will tell.

      Actually, I love reading this stuff, because everyone knows that financial and numerical success is what the Gospel is all about, and is a true indication that God is on your side! Yay!
