The Diocese of Edmonton is advertising a course on “God, Christianity and the Bible”.
Regrettably, the title of the course is the preamble to the serpent’s temptation of Eve in the Garden of Eden. The one that precipitated the Fall and was the start of all our problems.
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Genesis 3:1
Perhaps it is a Freudian slip or perhaps they have persuaded Satan to lead the course.
To find out which it is, you will have to attend.
This could maybe lead to something positive. Such temptation is as current now as it was in Adam’s time. Did God really say, “Leave fornication, pornography, drug taking, lying, swearing, – insert sins of choice here.”? The question is often asked, usually with a view to justifying something unjustifiable. Maybe here is the church’s chance to introduce something better.
Possibly the most difficult part will be that Christian morality – especially Christian sexual morality – will prove very unpopular. Even the Nine Riders of our Supreme Court couldn’t handle it.
You are quite correct in stating the Supreme Court could not handle it. The reasons for this is quite obvious — there is NO requirement for lawyers seeking for a seat on the Court to stand up for the Gospel. In fact, they are supposed to be completely neutral in that respect with the sole requirement is to worship that detestable ‘god of political expediency’. The Church knows or should know the standards set forth in the Scriptures but the leadership in both the ACoC and the TEC have clearly chosen that detestable god.
“”This could maybe lead to something positive.”
I’m afraid not in Edmonton under Jane Alexander.
