Rowan Williams is frustrated that some Christians are disgusted by homosexuality

From here:

He added: “Same with same sex marriage, where once more we’re used to being alongside people who are gay; many of our friends may be – indeed we may be – wrestling with that issue ourselves, and the Church is scratching its head and trying to work out where it is on all that, and what to think about it.

“What’s frustrating is that we still have Christian people whose feelings about it are so strong, and sometimes so embarrassed and ashamed and disgusted, that that just sends out a message of unwelcome, of lack of understanding, of lack of patience.

“So whatever we think about it, we need, as a Church, to be tackling what we feel about it.”

Rowan Williams, in his frustration, seems to miss a rather important distinction. We are all sinners and we all, from time to time do disgusting things; nevertheless, although somewhat tarnished, we are all still made in God’s image and should treat one another with the respect that God’s image deserves.

Just because an act evokes an emotional response of disgust doesn’t mean it isn’t intrinsically disgusting. Personally, I find the thought of homosexual sex simultaneously comical and disgusting; and not only do I feel not the least bit guilty about it, but I derive some satisfaction in knowing that my disgust has contributed in a small way to Rowan’s frustration.

  1. Once again Rowan is making a fool of himself. Does he have any idea just how embarrassing he is to us? Probably not.

If he were to actually read a Holy Bible (not one of those “new thing” so called “inclusive language” ones that were loosely translated from the corrupt and error ridden Critical Text, but a true and accurate translation such as the King James Version) he would see that God has spoken directly and clearly on this exact subject numerous times. And each time God has said the same thing. Homosexual behavior is disgusting.

For my part there is not frustration, embarrassment, nor confusion about it. God has said that it is disgusting. Therefore it is disgusting.

      • Hello Kate,

I hope this finds you well. You attend St. Hilda’s? If so than please know that I have kept the people of St. Hilda’s in my prayers, and that I have every confidence that everything will work out in the end.

But about other more accurate versions? Which versions are you referring to? I personally do not accept the Textus Vaticanus, the Textus Sinaiticus, nor the Critical Text as authentic. Consequently and translation of any of these I do not accept as being a true Holy Bible.

If you know of a contemporary English Version that has been translated from the Textus Receptus than I would be interested to know of it also.

  2. I gave the eulogy for my dear brother-law, Stephen, who died from AIDS, after being HIV positive for twenty years,so very ill, in the last two years, as we watched him waste away. I loved him dearly; he was generous, loving, kind, thoughtful, and always there when Karen and I needed him, which was often.I spoke with him about same sex marraige, and he always said, “Don’t be silly, marraige is for a man and woman!”
I understand when people see homosexual behavior as disgusting, for they know that homosexuals are not disgusting, but it is the behavior that is disgusting. Just as lying, stealing, killing, adulterous, and disobedience to God behaviors, are disgusting.
I knew Stephen from when he was 15 years old until he died in his early 50’s,and it broke my heart as I watched how his life choices led him to turmoil and ultimately his death, and it was always my prayer that he find peace, in the end I prayed to Jesus to give it to him.
I pray that those who choose not to obey God’s Word and Will for His children, could see the heart of love those of us have, who choose to obey Him, and love others as themselves, and that they would see the peril in their own choice to dis-obey God. I pray they would follow God’s agenda, and not their own.
As for me and my house, we love and obey God, as best we can, especially in loving others.

  3. I find the idea of anal intercourse disgusting also – but that isn’t the point. Recently I read that 23 different diseases can be transmitted by such acts (men and women do them also). If you really, really love, and want to “stand by” gay people the last thing you would ever do is try to promote, normalise, or accept such things (thereby bringing hideous suffering and death to people you claim to love). Oh, and God said such things should not be done. No doubt I’m an old-fashioned, stick-in-the-mud kind of Christian, but I have the quaint belief that God commanded us to do some things and refrain from some other things FOR OUR OWN GOOD.

  4. Really? I think if you look at the Anglican Church in North America’s website you will find very little on homosexuality, and lots about church planting and following Jesus.
