It seems that not all clergy votes were counted correctly, so the amendment to the marriage canon to allow same-sex marriage has passed.
So much for the computerised voting system.

All the bishops who were so quick to rebel can now claim to be within the law-abiding fold of canon law.
Yes, nice of them to show their true colours, though.
Actually, those bishops that go ahead with allowing same-sex marriages are still not following the canons since the resolution passed yesterday still needs to be passed a second time in 2019. Not that this technicality is going to matter very much.
That really looks like a fix. I’d like to see an external audit of the vote.
Hmm it looks convenient. When you really really really want something to happen….. That said I agree with David, this vote was meaningless as they were going to do it anyway.
Still, in the wider communion the fig leaf of ‘we didn’t vote for this’ has just been removed.
Sour grapes anybody ?
No, not really. the ACoC frequently does things with which I disagree. I think sarcasm is a fairly mild reaction in the circumstances, particularly when compared with some of the hysteria yesterday…
Not really. I prefer this result since it represents what is actually happening more accurately.
The outcome of the vote makes no difference whatsoever to which bishops will marry same sex couples. At least, this way, the national church has the same policy officially that its bishops do unofficially – plain for all to see.
I find the whole incompetent, hypocritical performance vastly enjoyable.
“And when The King came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
And He saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither
not having a wedding garment?
And he was speechless…”
+ Matthew 22:11-14
+ The Revelation of Jesus Christ ch. 19
How convenient. Just as well. We know where the ACoC was heading anyway. Might as well get it over with.
Well, this clearly proves what we as orthodox Christians knew all along. The ACoC is NOT a Christian Church but rather a church (notice the small “c”) of political expediency. It will worship anything that the apostates believe society will accept and have no hesitation in stabbing orthodox Christians in the back if that fits in with their agenda. It simply proves its worship of society which generally believes in “god” (notice the small “g”) but will not accept the true GOD.
The consummate historical irony of this procedure, unlawful in its inception, and, therefore, as unlawfully passed – most cowardly in the “closet” by a secret ballot – is the protesting voice of the Synod’s Indigenous members who, with most holy manners actually named this anti-Scriptural enactment for what it is in The LORD’s omniscient Eyes: an “abomination” + Leviticus 18; 20. That these selfsame anti- Biblical Bishops would now homologate as “Holy” that, at which at the most harmful hands of the ACC this same Community did suffer irreparable damage, only reveals the depths of their iniquity as self-styled spiritual leaders of the flock. + Jude (in toto) comes to mind.
I have to disagree on one point: it was not a secret ballot. It was computerised, so everyone’s vote was identifiable, which is why the powers that be recategorised one vote from laity to clergy. However, I would agree with the rest of what you say.
In any event, the apparent inability to hold a simple vote without causing chaos speaks to mind-numbing incompetence.
It was computerised in order that they did not have to stand and publicly declare themselves: an exercise now pending when The King and Head of His Church will judge it accordingly, for they just have laid “another foundation” than Jesus Christ, The Living WORD. + I Corinthians ch. 3
Indigenous voices were as divided on the issue as the rest of the synod. One indigenous bishop (Barbara Andrews) voted yes; Mark MacDonald spoke in favour of Colin Johnson’s amendment and abstained on the final vote; at least 2 indigenous members of Synod spoke in favour during the debate.
The operative word in the phrase is the “protesting” voice among their representation; the greater the crime, the greater the justified grounds for protest against its repetition in the name of that which is falsely called “Holy” – be it even one voice.
I am an Iranian Christian and an Anglican priest Refugee to Canada. The decision yesterday and today make me feel like I’m back home again. The mullahs back home have elections too, so long as their outcome is guaranteed. And they have ways to guarantee their desired outcome. The revisionist Bishops reminds me of the mullahs back home it is funny and interesting how the left and the far-right meets when it is the will of the people and their desire to ignore it
You are far from the only one. I suspect most of those who comment on this site think the process was rigged from day one.
That brings to mind the 2010 general synod which had a nautical theme. I remember, at the time, thinking how appropriate, since there was so much rigging involved.
In His Omniscience, The LORD foresaw the ‘nautical
theme’, on St. Michael’s Day, September 29, 2003, and removed the rigging with a Wind named Juan.
Your comment is absurd and ridiculous….back in Iran you’d be thrown in jail because of your religious beliefs, here in Canada you are free to believe in whatever you want, saying that Canada is like Iran because a religious organization approved something you disagree with is childish
You are free to go back to Iran whenever you want
I for one am so thankful for Fariborz and faithful Christians like him. He is able to share with us the wisdom that comes from a lifetime of committed faith that has been refined through suffering for Christ.
Another example of the intolerance of the so-called ‘tolerant’. “Go back to where you came from!” Orthodox Christians endured pressure and bullying at the synod and will increasingly face persecution in the broader culture. Disagreement with the acceptable paradigm may well, sooner than we may think, result in prison here as well.
The comment is not telling him to go, it´s reminding him of the choice. However you slice it his comment is inane and absurd, he just lost all the credibility he might have had
I don’t buy that at all. His point that only holding votes when you know in advance what the outcome will be is typical of the mullahs seems perfectly fair to me. What’s the problem with it?
Or should I just say please don’t feed the trolls?
By putting Canada at the same level of Iran based on the decision democratically made by a religious organization you have lost all your credibility
You just lost the battle due to self-inflicted injuries
Back in February, you may recall, the bishops issued a statement saying that there was insufficient support among the bishops to achieve 2/3 majority. The result was hardly a foregone conclusion, and at least one bishop switched his position from what he had said at the beginning of synod. The statements of Bishops Chapman, Johnson and Bird were obviously written ahead of time, in the expectation of a failed vote.
It is obvious that the minds of some were only made up, and even changed, during the discussions.
All the more reason that these three ecclesiastical rebels remain
in violation of their Ordination vows: first the written rebellion; then the Decision.
I suspect February’s figures reflected the bishops’ (and particularly Hiltz’s) shock at the consequences meted out to TEC at the Primates Gathering. Having realized that those consequences amounted to nothing, they were emboldened to vote the way they really wanted to. Not saying some minds weren’t changed. I just suspect most minds were made up years ago.
The basic unit of Anglicanism is the Diocese. If this is true, do we really need a General or Provincial Synod? If passing the motion now means it is okay to act, then why should we have to vote again in 2019?
Indeed, why bother to vote at all?
Revelation 22:11-15
“Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.”
“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
Amen.
This result is definitely a sign for orthodox bishops, clergy and parishioners to withdraw from the apostates as failure to do so will simply result in their sinking into the mire of apostasy. This is not a matter of liberalism vs. conservatism but one of apostasy vs. orthodoxy and there is no possible way in which the two can be united. The apostate bishops, including the primate, should resign as they have denounced not only their vows but also the authority of Scripture. Genuine Christians should immediately cease any contributions to apostate churches and dioceses. This is definitely a day for rejoicing in Satan’s camp.
Take a close look at the Anglican Network in Canada where the Gospel is held in high honour.
You’re right, Frank. That first wave of Canadian Anglicans who left have been treated appallingly (churches seized, not to mention being vilified on an ongoing basis). Those (like myself) who felt it was possible to stay are grateful for the foundations that you have laid and the trail you have blazed.
I like your graciousness. It’s clearly evident in your comments.
Thanks Brian. I do try (although not always with success).
So the deifying of the contemporary culture continues apace, virtually guaranteeing that the ACoC will hasten its own demise.
Eventually the church will be outgrown by orthodox and believing groups. The danger that will then present itself – and this is probably most true for the ANiC – will be applications from heretical clergy and members wanting to parasite themselves on a properly Christian community.
Now is the time for ANiC to buckle down on its disciplinary procedures; to carefully develop steely determination to protect the flock; to be unafraid to expel immoral and unbelieving parishioners. Without this, the same corruption will spread. It is well to recall that a few generations ago – within living memory of some folks – the clergy of the ACoC would never have dreamed of approving same sex marriage.
The other clear and present danger is the Eternal fate of souls made in the image of GOD whose spiritual welfare had and has been entrusted to these anti-Biblical neo-Bablylonian Priests and Bishops; some of whom already have passed on in a state of unrepentant mortal sin; others are being led to do so.
Thus the Divine condemnation for this falls on ALL who either actively or passively condone it, with our LORD’s solemn injunction of warning,
“Come out of her, My People, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and
that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto
Heaven, and GOD hath remembered her iniquities.’
+ The Revelation of Jesus Christ 18:4,5
