Love Free or Die is the title of a documentary film about Gene Robinson, the first – but not the last – overtly homosexual bishop in The Episcopal Church.
The title of the film seems to imply that Bishop Robinson would prefer death to the fettering of his sexual inclinations. As things turned out, not only is he still with us but he became a bishop, a darling of the Anglican liberal establishment and has had a movie made about him. To add to the collection of “firsts”, Robinson was the first bishop to wear a bullet-proof vest at his ordination, demonstrating a determination to avoid the second option mentioned in the title of the documentary.
Naturally, the bishop is a hero to the Diocese of Westminster, so it is allowing Integrity Vancouver to screen the documentary in one of its churches: St. David’s Anglican Church. In spite of having a title that is an amalgam of Born Free and Die Hard, the film isn’t particularly popular: this is its first appearance in Canada and, in order to entice people to see it, St. David’s showing is free.
Here is the trailer in which, oddly enough, those who oppose same-sex marriage are clearly homophobic bigots and those who are for it are pioneering justice-seekers forging a bright new world full of love, compassion and – gay bishops.
Two quick points that need to be corrected.
1. What Gene Robinson is doing is not “love”, for what he is indulging in is not of or from God. It can only be some perversion of God’s creation and is at best some form of lust and only serves to degerate Gene into some sort of animal, something less than human.
2. Gene seems to think that his choice is to either be allowed to “love” freely, or he would rather die. He may survive for a while in this world, but God’s Holy Word is perfectly clear on the issue. If Gene does not repent he will die. Gene’s will be a death of the spirit. His sould will perish. How sad.

Do you forget that Jesus is God the Son, which means that He is included with God the Father and God the Holy Ghost as one God. Thus whatever God the Father has said, Jesus has said also, and whatever God the Holy Ghost has said, Jesus has said also. You cannot seperate any one part of the Holy Trinity form the others for all three parts are one. If you have any doubts about this than I refer you to the Creed of St. Athanasius

It would be wrong to limit your Faith to only those things which Jesus said. For that would mean to ignore all of the rest of the Holy Word of God as He gave to us in His Holy Scripture. If you are at all unclear as to what is and is not included in these Holy Scriptures than I refer you to Article VI.

Hmmm. It might be interesting to see this movie, to see how Gene Robinson is portrayed…as some type of hero figure. Of course, this film will operate within the gay/north american culture.
I have several times thought, because Robinson wore a bullet proof jacket at his consecration, how could the Holy Spirit really operate? Doesn’t wearing such a vest symbolize some sort of compromise, some acting with partial faith in God?
I never thought it took much faith, to move from being a Diocesan Archdeacon to being a Diocesan Bishop. It is mostly a career move, up the status ladder, continuing a middle-class career. It was a quite safe decision, for the Diocese and for Robinson….everyone knew each other. There was much familiarity going on.
The title “Love Free or Die” is quite dramatic, isn’t it? I’d suggest the background to this title is Romanticism….and I think it really goes back to the 1960’s. Remember the Easy Rider film……adventure, experience, etc, and how that film ended…but, it is the “do your own thing” ethic of the 1960’s that has entered the Anglican Church……And, notice, that many of our Bishops nowdays, many were young adults back in the 1970’s. So, many of our senior clergy learnt their beliefs about sexuality back then, and they haven’t changed at all. These clergy probably were casual Christians back then, then they returned to the faith, became middle-class persons, became successful in the church as career priests, and then gained power and high office. So, it is no accident the gay issue occurred in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. It coincided with the middle-class hippies “growing up” and becoming Bishops in a lazy middle-class version of Christianity, our Canadian Anglican Church!!!!

The Documentary was in such a way as to advocate what Gene is standing for.
What was Integrity Vancouver was there.
The Vancouver Chapter of Integrity has now folded
I was told by a member that it is one of the larger chapters compared to others that have around six members.

The documentary was well done with good filming and scenery.
I like watching documentaries have seen a lot of them.
After that, stopped by at ‘On Eagles’ Wings’ Native Pentecostal Church on E Pender & Templeton located in the Native Housing on the N-E corner.
There was a small but loyal group of twelve persons there.
There was a good amount of talk about praying with others and deliverance, etc.
You know, I then noticed a difference from the documentary I’d just watched.
The documentary didn’t seem to as much get into what was being talked about at ‘On Eagles’ Wings’
Getting back into Gene is in a longterm relationship.
He was married before with children.
There was a previous Gay Bishop to him is now retired and in a long term relationship
There is now Bishop Glasspool and another one after that.
This makes four, three are male and one is female.
This is still a very small amount.
The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada mentions 3%
Kinsey Report done in the 1950s mentions 10%
