He has to go and apologise:
The Archbishop of Canterbury has expressed his “deep sorrow” for any difficulties caused by his comments about the Catholic Church in Ireland.
His claim that the Church had lost all credibility because of its handling of child abuse by priests was criticised by both Catholic and Anglican clergy.
The Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, said he was “stunned”.
Dr Rowan Williams later telephoned Archbishop Martin to insist he meant no offence to the Irish Catholic Church.
I had hoped that we were seeing the emerging of a new muscular, incisive, un-Hegelian Rowan, but no.
How disappointing.
Dr Williams has his own “CATALOGUE OF SHAME” The Guardian Newspaper of Sat 26th May ’07 Archbishop of Canterbury yesterday promised independent reviews would be set up in every Diocese to investigate outstanding allegations of child abuse against Clergy and other Church workers………
I wonder what will come out of the woodwork? Something that will surprise many I’m sure. Some of it will be suppressed too, on that I stake money.

The Arch of Canterbury should be ashamed of his ‘lost credibility’ statement about the Catholic Church in the Repub of Ireland when he titularly heads a church community that has lost all credibility for decades! But it is particularly shameful for him to say anything when there are many, many examples of covered up child sexual abuse in the churches of the Anglican Communion, and he knows it! I personally know of two that were ‘covered up’ when I was a practising Anglican in the 60’s. He of all people should know that anyone who occupies a position of trust (i.e., doctors, lawyers, teachers, professors, mentors, &c) are always vulnerable to this type of activity, either from their own desires or the desires of those who trust them. When I take into account his years of clerical service in the most auspicious office Anglicanism can offer, his remarks come over as mean-spirited and arrogant!
