The Palestine Solidarity Campaign , an organisation committed to “the principle of self-determination of the Palestinian people”, thought they would further their cause by disrupting a performance of the exquisite Bruch violin concerto number 1 at the Royal Albert Hall by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. What they actually made plain was that their political stupidity is exceeded only by their philistinism.
From here:
The BBC was forced to pull a live Proms performance off air on Thursday night after a performance by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra was disrupted by protesters.
Happened in Seattle as well.
I don’t understand the political stupidity part. Presumably the goal was to draw attention to their cause. They suceeded to the point that even you gave them coverage. Now I’m aware of something that would have otherwise escaped my attention.
I rest my case – if the middle east conflict has hitherto escaped your attention, no amount of booing during a violin concerto is going to aid your concentration on the subject.
Wrong. Since the Palestinian perspective rarely makes it through conservative filters, there may be some people who decide to check for themselves what all of the hullabaloo is about. One’s view about the validity of free speech, and how it is expressed, seems to often depend on one’s sympathy with the “cause”. These protesters are, in your view, idiots (and you probably would have applauded if the police had hauled them away), while Linda Gibbons is “persecuted”.
I support the right of both Linda Gibbons and the British protesters to draw attention to their cause. And your right to criticize.
Warren, your comments are usually repleat with obtuse equivalences, but you have outdone yourself on that one.
I aim to please.
Actually this is a red flag, a warning that the collapse of civilization in Great Britain is nigh.
