No doubt about it, the Cathedral clerics are practicing for the year 2040 when, according to recent projections, the Anglican Church of Canada will cease to exist. Something will take its place and it will probably be Islam, so the church might as well get a head start and turn the cathedral into a mosque now.
The event was billed as an attempt to “improve interfaith understanding and constructive engagement”.
Here is the Islamic call to prayer which, you will not be surprised to see, makes no mention of Jesus but makes much of Muhammad being the messenger of God, a contention which, if true, make nonsense of Christianity.
God is Great! God is Great! God is Great! God is Great!
I bear witness that there is no god except the One God.
I bear witness that there is no god except the One God.
I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of God.
I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of God.
Hurry to the prayer. Hurry to the prayer.
Hurry to salvation. Hurry to salvation.
God is Great! God is Great!
There is no god except the One God.
The Muslims attending the event were there to explain Jesus to the Christians who attended. An odd choice considering that Islam teaches that Jesus did not die on the cross, was not resurrected, was not the Son of God and did not make atonement for the sins of the world.
If that hasn’t irritated you enough, you can seek further irritation by reading the entire article here (page 13). Perhaps you will get the same impression as me: Cathedral Christians are ashamed of their own beliefs.
An open exhibition on Jesus from an Islamic perspective was set up in the Cathedral’s parish hall, where members of the Muslim community engaged with the congregation and shared their belief and love for Jesus. Imams from Vancouver Mosque were also available for any detailed questions.
[…..]
Islamic Call to Prayer was made from the Cathedral pulpit at 12:30pm with an English explanation. This call to prayer is similar to the Christian church tradition of ringing bells before important services. The attendees also witnessed the Noon Prayer at 1:15pm followed by an explanation about the concept and purpose of prayer in Islam.
I suppose the good news is, when the Cathedral completes its metamorphosis into a mosque, there will be no more same-sex marriages held there.
From the article:
“I read all the story boards with great interest. I was totally taken by surprise to learn that Mary, Jesus and God were all common to the Muslim Faith. I learned a Lot! Keep up the good work, it could make a big difference. I leave with a totally different concept of how, in effect, the two religions run in parallel, not opposition.”
I got the impression this was written by a child, but you have to wonder whether spelling “Lot” with a capital letter was actually intentional and the editors missed some sort of hidden meaning.
Also, from the article:
“Conflict arises only when people don’t know and understand each other.”
This statement, in my opinion, is absurd. It can be rebutted by historical fact from the time of Moses on.
Read the sentence with Lot
#1 Could be a typing mistake called a typo
Or
#2 A figure of writing if spoken would be a figure of speech
The ‘Lot’ is Poetry is called ‘Hyperbole’ is to exaggerate something
Well
It’s good to be familiar with Islam is the Abrahamic Faith after Christianity as Judaism is the Abrahamic Faith before Christianity
Familiarized as to what the true facts are about Islam for non Muslims is good
That way we don’t leave ourselves open to phobias

The ‘Lot’ (in) Poetry not (is)
Start with the Hebrew meaning of the word “lot” (covering veil) and then carry on through various interpretations and applications of the story of Lot in today’s context. The use here could be (and probably is) a typo, but it could be sublety or even journalistic subterfuge. In any event it appears to me to have an element of irony.
“Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry…” I Corinthians 10:14-22, the Apostle Paul’s urgent appeal to the Corinthian Christians who lived in a polytheistic city; this text, along with Acts 17 wherein Paul repeats this Scriptural command, based on the Second Commandment given at Sinai “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me” Exodus 20:2-6, was the timely sermon proclaimed at West Highland Baptist, Hamilton, Ontario, on Sunday, February 23, 2020 (online at 11 am).
This sermon series from the Book of Exodus continues throughout Lent into the summer. If self-isolation becomes necessary, or growing apostasy forces absenting from one’s Church, this is a Christ affirming/Scriptural place to worship, praise and pray in JESUS Saving Name.
Why “flee” idolatry? First and foremost because The LORD GOD JHWH is a “jealous GOD”: the jealousy of Divine Love of The One GOD Who became sinless Flesh as a Sin Atonement for the whole world John 3:16;14:6, and Whose Resurrection from the dead confirmed The Sacrifice.
Another grave reason’s being: that any form of idolatry invites “spiritual contamination” that is “demonic”, imperiling not only the votary, but also the children of all such who take part in it:
“But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils,
and not to GOD: and I would not that ye have fellowship with devils.
Ye cannot drink The Cup of The LORD, and the cup of devils:
ye cannot be partakers of The LORD’s Table, and of the table of devils.
Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to The Church of GOD…that they may be Saved.”
I Corinthians ch. 10. Amen.
I wonder whether the Muslims explained their laws about polygamy, FGM, abayas, beating wives with sticks “no thicker than their thumb”, or even taqiyya. Might have been illuminating. There seems to have been no mention of camels, either.
Matthew 7:6 might be relevant, too.
This is one of the serious ironies involved here. Christ Church Cathedral bills itself as LGBBQT+2SN (N is for Necrophiliac, don’t judge me!) friendly. I heard through the grapevine that one brave parishioner asked the Muslims their view of homosexuality and was told it was “sin” against “allah.” Why a progressive church would invite fundamentalist Islam (is there any other kind?) in, who knows. The irony here is that the muslims, so I heard, were quite capable of vigorously defending their theology, in a way unlike any Anglican Clergy I’ve heard of recently. The muslims certainly didn’t have the idea that this was an opportunity to learn about other legitimate faiths, from what I heard it was basically a missionary expedition to convert the Christians to the true faith of Islam.
There is not and never can be any “agreement to disagree” between the Faith and this old Jewish-Christian heresy. Civilised co-existence of persons made in the image of God is another matter. That’s an arrangement in the context of which we can do real evangelism: then the difference between true love for neighbour and Muslim murder of all non-Muslims can be made clear.
A few years ago I sat through a sermon in which the “priest” (I use the term loosely here) stated that other faiths are legitimate. I was dumbstruck and was at a complete loss for words. It seems that this illness this “priest” suffers from is not an isolated incident, and it is killing what is left of the Anglican church of Canada.
That other faiths are wholly ILLEGITIMATE is an untenable position. But one doesn’t have to condemn them all as a farrago of nonsense and lies to know that without exception they are inferior to the Faith, as our artificial lights are inferior to the light of the Sun. There is light, love, warmth and truth elsewhere, but all other systems were called by the Fathers praeparatio evangelica because Christ is greater.
The last line of the article was very funny, made me laugh out loud. Islam would not condone SS marriage and certainly not women priests. Nor would it be inclusive in any ways other religions. Not sure whether to laugh or cry at the pass things have come to.
A good article here about fruitful ways forward: https://onenewsnow.com/missions/2020/03/02/global-prayer-campaign-targets-fortress-of-islam
Very many Muslims it seems to me frequently rise above the level of their religion, as very many Christians frequently fall below the level of theirs. I was at school in London with Muslims and other girls from other religious traditions. They were better-seeming people than I the then-nominally Christian daughter of the Vicarage.
When it actually turns into a mosque, what will they do with the organ? Probably burn it.
After taking out the pews, since Muslims kneel on the floor for prayer, they’ll reorient the floor coverings so that worshippers can face Mecca. It’s significantly disorienting to walk into a mosque or masjid (a converted church,) and see the rugs oriented into a side wall of the building.
