I really have no idea why the Chapel Bar and Bistro in New Zealand thinks this is a good idea, but they have decided that the best way to advertise their booze and pizza is to show Jesus and Mary in bed together – to keep it relevant, there is a box of half eaten pizza under the bed.
Christians will probably just ignore the advertisement: mainly because isn’t true, it’s a really stupid way to sell pizza and, for those who care to listen, there are scary warnings not to do this kind of thing.
Now, if this had been a representation of Mohammed in bed with the nine year old Aisha, it would have been quite accurate – although still not a particularly effective incentive to buy pizza. I wonder if representing Mohammed as a paedophile would have resulted in outraged Muslims breaking windows, setting things of fire and threatening to behead anyone who has the effrontery to insult their alleged prophet by drawing attention to something that he actually did?
And how long would it take for Obama to apologise for the ad?
Since it seems to be by implication my first thought was a couple of 60’s hippies passed out on weedy pizza.
However if the Brotherhood thought for even a nanosecond (that is average attention span) that this was meant to portray … blood would be shed, the pub bombed and embassies assaulted. Probably only Americans would suffer since most of these folks have no idea what a New Zealand is or where to find an Old Zealand which is in Denmark.
Making fun and mockery of Christ is nothing new. It began before the Cross and it will continue until He returns. Then He will judge all the living and the dead at which time thousands of years of scoffers and mockers will have their day in court. At which time it is my guess there will be very little laughter. To those that are perishing the Gospel is foolishness.
As Christians we are not to allow ourselves to be consumed by anger-we must follow our Masters lead and say “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”
Isn’t that supposed to be Mary Magdalene?
If not, then whoever dredged the image up, is even more twisted than one would consider possible.
I thought “Old” Zealand(or Zeeland) was actually a province of the Netherlands, but I could be wrong.
Zeeland is Dutch, just one letter different
Ewwwwwwwwwwww, your right. They have her dressed as Jesus’ mother.
Yikes – I mean’t ‘you’re’, of course.
A few years ago just prior to Good Friday my wife and I saw a billboard for a laser tag gaming place which read “Make this the Best Friday ever.” I phoned the manager of the business and let her know why that might be offensive to Christians. Poor woman had no idea, was very conciliatory and the sign was changed. It was actually a good experience where I was able to share a little of my faith with someone who knew little about Christianity. i think the pizza place people might find such a response helpful too- couldn’t hurt and it helps Christians to have a +ve reponse to a -ve action.
Probably got the idea from St Matthew-in-the-City, with its perennially obnoxious billboards, which is only about 10 blocks away.
Why would a restaurant do something in such abominably poor taste? New Zealand’s a peculiar place, where secular is often thought synonymous with sophisticated.
The reaction of most. meh…
