He is risen indeed !
Last night I attended an Easter Vigil service where I was a sponsor for an adult receiving the two sacraments of Baptism and then Confirmation. The service began in darkness; the Pascal Candle was lit in the narthex, and then the taper candles of the narthex party; we then entered in procession, starting chains of candle lighting in the congregation. The service began with an absolutely splendid singing by a professional cantor of the Ex(s)ultet (you being a church music person, I assume that you know what that is), accompanied by chord progressions from the organist that supported rather than dominated the vocal melody. The result was electrifying; it could be truly described as an exultation. Although properly reverent, and solemn where appropriate, that Easter Vigil service had a definite “party” atmosphere.
I shared your news of not seeing the sun, but the Son, with our congregation Sunday morning. We didn’t see the sun either, but did see the Son also. Thanks for sharing.
