Right you are my brother ornithologists, this beautiful male specimen of God’s handiwork is:
Pheucticus ludovicianus, (although not from Louisiana, but only migrates through there), and is better known as the:
Rose-Breasted Grosbeak.
I hope you were treated to it’s melodious and boisterously whistled tune.
A harbinger of good things to come for the recipient of his song and visit. It reminds me a a poem I love:
“Happiness is like the swallows in the spring.
They may come and nest under your eaves-or-not.
You cannot command it.
When you expect to happy, you are not,
When you don’t expect to be happy there is suddenly-
EASTER IN YOUR SOUL,
tho it be mid-winter.
Something, you do not know what, has broken that seal that door in the depth of your being that opens on–
ETERNITY!”
Elizabeth Goudge
The Lord has sent you a message, that you can be happy, despite the clouds above your head, for you I know have,
“Easter in your soul”.
May God bless you this day, and always, my friend.
Nice picture, can I ask what kind of bird it is? I’m from much farther west than you are.
Thanks, I think it’s a male rose-breasted grosbeak.
