First Tony Bennett left his heart in San Francisco

Now he’s mislaid his brain in Timbuctoo.

From here:

Legendary singer Tony Bennett has waded into a new controversy by saying America “caused” the attacks on the Twin Towers.

[….]

“But who are the terrorists? Are we the terrorists or are they the terrorists? Two wrongs don’t make a right,” Bennett said talking about the aftermath of the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.

[….]

“They flew the plane in, but we caused it,” Bennett said. “Because we were bombing them and they told us to stop.”

  1. Does anyone else ever wonder why these celebrity types think they have some kind of God-given authority to make serious moral pronouncements to the rest of us? They are ONLY entertainers, for goodness’ sake. They ONLY sing and dance. They are continual attention-seekers. Most of them have no education. Many of them have booze- and drug-addled brains. I bet they have to have their agents spell their names for them. Why does anyone listen to these people?

  2. Brings to mind a parody sung by Spike Milligan (Goon Show – BBC radio in the 50s):

I left my heart in San Francisco,
I left my knees in old Peru.
I left my little wooden leg
    somewhere in Winnipeg.
I left my wig in Dalton Zoo with you.
I left my teeth on Table Mountain,
High on a hill, they smile at me.
Oh, when I get back to San Francisco
there won’t be much left of me!
