JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — A man reportedly trying to show students how to make explosives was killed by a homemade bomb inside an Islamic boarding school in Indonesia, police said Tuesday.
School officials and students have prevented police from entering the building since Monday’s explosion, local police spokesman Lt. Col. Sukarman Husen said.
This takes me back to my schooldays in Wales: first period, math; second period, English; third period bomb making.
So, the “school officials and students” have connived in the incident (by preventing proper investigation? Islamist no-go area (like here in England, and other places in Europe)) – is that what the report is saying? (Reminds me of the Pakistani lawyers dead set on Asia bibi’s condemnation & executions). [No no no: In Wales you would be doing “maths” (or even mathemateg) – one thing about north American English that really grates is the loss of the “s” in Maths … “Math” is so difficult to pronounce, in many contexts, requiring glottal stopping].
Come on now, Math makes more sense. You don’t say “Englishes” or “Geograpyies”, now do you? 😉

I have a similar ailment. (Sometimes it also extends to after dinner cocktails.)
But “maths” is the abbreviated form of “mathematics”. Do you say “I’m studying “mathematic”” – maybe you do.
So is Math.
The mathematical probability of my being able to spell “Math” or “Maths” or even “Arithmetic” is in a direct ratio to my consumption of my well spiked coffee, my pre-dinner cocktails, my after dinner libations and the amount of wine during dinner. Did I mention my “medicinal purposes only” whiskey? As you all can see spelling anything is a morning exercise best done upon rising…….. and as for bomb making, I leave that to well trained schoolboys.
I also wonder how many people reading the above will construe it as it is meant to be taken? ( Not letting the cat out of the bag here as I consider fanatical people rather thick and an sure they will all dismiss Gawk as a useless Anglican drunkard. ) Distain from both sides ensues.
I note my spelling has already begun to fail.
