Sam Rose, Bishop of the Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador is sleeping on the floor of his art studio to end furniture poverty. I didn’t know furniture poverty was a thing.
I have no objection to this if it makes the bishop feel better. Once he has furniture poverty under control, I hope he addresses art studio poverty; I wouldn’t mind having one.
Bu they don’t all tell the world about them.
My first apartment was furniture poor, but cinder blocks and boards make good shelves. Tell the Bishop that an old mattress on the floor makes a softer bed than a sleeping bag. If he is that concerned, he should start a furniture bank like they did in Ohio. https://www.furniturebankcoh.org/
His empty cathedral might be a good site.
As a teenager in Hong Kong, I enjoyed the annual summer camp run by the Sunday School of my Chinese Anglican Church. We used a boarding school for the five-days camp. Swimming every afternoon was one of the highlights of this fun week. Of course, we had worship, and Bible studies too. But there was not enough mattresses for all the available beds. Thus, sometimes I had to sleep without the comfort of a mattress. Try it, there was no fun at all.
Reminds me of the probably not apocryphal story of the conference leader who, learning at the start that there were more people than beds, said, “Behold, brethren, I tell you a mystery: we shall not all sleep” …
The left seems to be inventing new things to see who can outdo the rest in wokeness.
