The Bishop of Quebec, Dennis Drainville, reluctant to allow an atrocity go to waste, has issued a pastoral letter on the Orlando murders in which he makes the grotesque comparison between the injustice of murdering someone and the “injustice” of not marrying them in a church:
The atrocities perpetrated by the lone gunman in Orlando are not just a grievous act of violence against the LBGTQ community but an attack on every citizen in the world community. As such, it is imperative that we speak out directly and forcefully against this monstrous act.

The discussions that we in the Anglican Communion have had over the last 30 years regarding the ordination of Gay persons, the blessing of same gender partners and the current debate regarding the nature of marriage are in actuality our own attempt finally to bring about justice for the members of the LGBTQ community. God’s gift of human liberty cannot be made hostage to any philosophy, religion or sectarian attitudes. I call on all people who believe in peace and justice to encourage friends, family, neighbours and co-workers to take a united stand with the LGBTQ community. Let us work together to ensure Love, Hope and Faith are shared freely among all of God’s precious children.
Does this article come with an airsickbag?
I`ll get you a plastic one…so you can drown in your own vomit
Obviously the thing to do with an atrocity is indeed to let it go to waste. Using it to highlight an issue that actually concerns the community impacted is manifestly wrong, because it makes us lose sight of the point, which is that some Anglicans don’t approve of homosexuality.
That bishop is a grandstanding dirtbag.
It takes one to recognise another
This mass murderer did not murder 49 people because the Anglican Church of Canada has not changed the Marriage Canon to marry same-sex couples. Perhaps, we should abolish the Marriage Canon altogether to avoid more mass killings in the future.
It appears that the principal person who failed to “take a united stand with the LGBTQ community” was their ‘gay’ Islamic jihadist killer:after having had numerous visits “shared freely” among and with them as a – fellow traveler.
The problem is that clergy and persons who claim to be Christian have been conditioned to change their allegiance to the Gospel to the god of political correctness. This has allowed Islam to grow and will result in our loss of any real personal freedom including true Christians to follow the Gospel. The actions taken by our governments clearly push this forward. Definitely the perversion of homosexuality and/or transsexualism has come to the point of virtually honoured and that is proven by the so-called Gay Pride parades which should never be forced upon society. There is nothing legally that can be done to bring those involved in such activity to change but that is NOT an excuse to honour same. As Christians we are called to promote the Gospel and our failure to do so is at least partially responsible for the actions of radicals who have come to believe we really do not have any standard of morals.
” God’s gift of human liberty cannot be made hostage to any philosophy, religion or sectarian attitudes.”
Oh, really? In this world, liberty can and often is made hostage to various philosophies, religions and sectarian attitudes. That has been the case since the dawn of civilization.
