Didn’t walk into a bar but they did find themselves together at Windsor Castle in this rather odd juxtaposition:
The Queen is flanked by Justin Welby who believes – although he is slippery about admitting it – in same sex-marriage and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar who believes homosexuality is “completely strange to eastern men… who are naturally disgusted with such deviance”.
By rights Welby should regard the imam as a homophobe – except that would make Welby an Islamophobe. What a conundrum.
My sympathy is with the Queen who was stuck in the middle.
Both Cantuar and HM got gift copies of my book https://www.amazon.com/Holy-Homosex-Priscilla-D-M-Turner/dp/1482347865/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1366258469&sr=1-1&keywords=holy+homosex . Guess whose staff sent a polite acknowledgment?
One more reason for the Church of England to get out of the state. Jesus is the Head of the Church, not the king or queen.
You are absolutely correct. As long as the appointment of the ABC is subject to the civil government the Anglican Communion will continue the worship of that detestable “god of political expediency”. The time has long since past for the ABC to make a stand for the GOSPEL and not simply fall in line with whatever the civil government might consider acceptable.
“By rights Welby should regard the imam as a homophobe – except that would make Welby an Islamophobe. What a conundrum.”
That’s a great line because it’s also true: “progressive” ideology is a vast minefield of internal contradictions like this that can blow up suddenly in the face of even the most committed acolyte.
