The articles fails to make any mention of God, Jesus, evangelism or the Christian hope in the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.
Although I’m sure the actual report is full of profound insights into things transcendent, the ACNS prefers to concentrate on the temporal: disaster relief – a noble campaign to resuscitate Western Anglicanism; illegitimate debt – the Anglican Church of Canada’s 2013 budget; climate change – the fear that the terrestrial dwelling of North American clerics could become as hot as their eternal resting place; and HIV/AIDS, – an attempt to protract the earthly sojourn of Canadian Anglican clergy, who are now almost all gay.
No mention of God, Jesus, etc? Meanwhile, at least one large billboard is up in downtown Vancouver, proclaiming “Mohammed, Messenger of Mercy.” Maybe it is an offshoot of the Quran Project Billboard Campaign in the UK, or something like it. Or maybe its part of the campaign by the Islamic Circle of North America. I don’t know, but if the billboards start listing Abraham, Jesus, Moses and Mohammed as “same family, same message” it will be the ICNA.
I’m not sure if it is relevant to this topic, but I wanted to post about it somewhere so it can be compared to what mainline churches are doing (and not doing) at the moment. Also, remember how billboard compaigns by evangelical Christians in the past were criticized, mocked and denigrated? I wonder what, if any, reaction there will be to these billboards? If someone tried to criticize them, or Mohammed, would that person be charged with a hate crime?
Slight correction. The billboard reads “Mercy for Mankind” not “Messenger of Mercy”. I think it may be some sort of advertisement for an Islamic convention or something. Any, enough on that.
These are the last two I would trust with disaster response. They have little or no experience. They can cut a check to the Red Cross or Salvation Army EDS any day and get better results.
It’s quite possible and compatible for both Anglicans and Lutherans to work together.
